Scoliosis

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is the medical term for an abnormal curve in the spine. It has many implications for people suffering with it, most notably frequent and severe pain. Socilisos is a condition that must be managed well to prevent further bouts of pain, and increases in abnormal spinal curve.

Often the changes are not reversible with conventional therapy.

Scoliosis is a condition that is close to Dr Winnie’s (chiro) heart. As a teen Dr Winnie (chiro) was diagnosed with a severe scoliosis curve. After being managed by many health professionals, for little results, Dr Winnie (chiro) found a chiropractor who helped manage her pain.  This is what inspired her to become a chiropractor. To read more about Dr Winnie’s story, click here

Dr Winnie Wong (chiro) has had extensive training in the management of patients with scoliosis. She has completed the Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis Accreditation Program or (SEAS), giving her a great understanding in how to correctly manage people with scoliosis.

Her goal is simple: to help people with scoliosis to live better lives, without being impacted by their condition. Her treatment and exercise programs from scoliosis ensure this becomes a reality.

Causes of scoliosis:

The cause of scoliosis is not well documented. However, here are some possible links.

  • Neuromuscular conditions (cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy)

  • Birth defects

  • Injuries to or infections of the spine (especially as a child)

  • Age

  • Underlying disease or pathology (rare)

Scoliosis is most common in young girls. When assessing the scoliosis it is important to identify the degree of the curve. This allows the chiropractor to monitor changes, being able to act early if bracing or surgery become a necessity.

Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis

The SEAS approach utilises corrective neuromuscular exercises to prevent the potential need for bracing and fusion for scoliosis patients. Creating spinal stability to prevent the condition hampering daily activities. That coupled with specific chiropractic adjustments to the spine help the patient to live well, and prevent other more invasive therapies.
